Making New Grape Vines from Existing Established Grape Vines.

Hello, I work in my garden for many reasons, one being that I love to spend time growing my own food, this way I know what I am eating. I like seeing how the plants grow and it really takes me a couple of growing seasons to get to know the plants and how to preserve the seeds for the next growing season. However, I could never do any of this without my husband, Mr. Mike. He is a wonderful inspiration of, " come on Mom, "let's plant a garden ,it's time to plants peas first and so on.

To make new grape vines , all you have to do is,: look for a long healthy vine, pull the vine to the ground and make sure it is inline with the rest of the vines. Now get a flat log or a heavy rock and put it on top of the vine, sometimes you might have to help the vine and secure it with a string. Make sure the tip of the vine is exposed.
This should sit all year long and the following year your vine will have roots extablished.
Now in the spring, remove the log or flat rock and look at the new roots. They should be developed under the rock and the roots are brown. Be careful and remove the roots and then cut the vine up at the top of plant. Now, here is your new plant. Put this where you want to make new rows of Grape vines. plant these 6 feet apart because they will need the room as they keep growing.
